Baseball Skills Assessment

If your child plans to play in the Coast, AAA or Majors division for the upcoming season they must attend the Baseball Skills Assessment. This is necessary so that balanced teams can be created and your child can experience a balanced, enjoyable, and competitive environment.

If for some reason your player is unable to attend the Skills Assessment, please contact the Player Agent ([email protected]) as soon as possible. If it is due to extenuating circumstances, you may request approval to attend a scheduled make-up session (if applicable).

Each year players must attend skill evaluations in order to be drafted to a AAA or Majors teams for that year. Assessment scores are used for placement into the newly formed Coast Baseball Division for balanced play. Please read the below so that you and your player have an idea of what to expect during the evaluation process.

AA Players that have petitioned to play up to Coast and received approval from the Board must also attend. You'll receive an email with additional information approximately one week prior to the Skills Assessment date.

What to Expect

Timeline of assessments: Your player will arrive at the their designated check in time, where they will receive their name tag and be directed to the area of the field where their group will begin 15-20 min of warmups. They will stay with their same (age-based) group and will run through stations for fielding grounders, fielding pop flys, hitting/base running, and pitching. The expectation is that the assessment portion will take 20-30min, so with time for warmups/playing catch and the assessment stations, please anticipate being at the field for about an hour from check in. We will do our best to run on time, we can best achieve that with everyone showing up on time for their assigned group, again PLEASE DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!

Please complete a Medical Release Form and bring it with you to assessments. We will also have forms available to be completed at assessments.

Please be sure your player brings the following with them:
1) Athletic attire- please be sure to dress for the weather!
2) Athletic shoes or cleats
3) Their glove
4) Water bottle
Optional items to bring:
5) Bat
6) Helmet

What can you expect after assessments? Once assessments and the scheduled make-up day (if applicable) are completed the league will organize the formal draft for Division Managers of Majors (Baseball/Softball) and AAA (Baseball/Softball)to draft their teams within 1-2 weeks of assessments.  Families will be informed of which division and team their player(s) have been assigned. Coast Division players will be placed on to teams based on assessment score and neighborhood designation shortly thereafter.

Please direct any questions you have regarding the process or scheduling to the SLL Player Agent ([email protected])
