What are the divisions?

Tball -  Ages 5-7 Co-Ed. Serves as an introduction to basic baseball concepts with an emphasis on teamwork. You must have one year of T-ball before you can move on to the next level.

A ball -  Ages 7-8 Co-Ed.  Coach Pitch or Machine Pitch.  Typical player is still learning to throw and properly catch. Some kids can stay in this division for more than one year.

AA ball (baseball) -  Age 7-9 or 10 depending on the situation.  This is Player Pitch with assist from Coach Pitch after 4 balls are thrown.  Typical player can safely catch a ball from a teammate.  More competitive than A ball. Some kids can stay in this division for more than one year.

AAA/Minors (baseball) - Age 8-11 depending on player needs and ability.  Most 11 year olds will be playing in Majors.  This is a drafted division.

Majors (baseball) - 9-12 depending on player needs and ability.  Most 9 year olds will be playing in AAA but you never know.  This is a drafted division.

Juniors (baseball) – Age 13-14

Seniors (baseball) – Age 15 – 16

Softball Divisions:

Shoreline LL is part of District 8 (D8). D8 softball is separated into two sections, a northern section and a City section. Shoreline softball plays in the North division. All leagues in D8 have such few teams in ALL levels that we have to inter-league with each other. The only way that we won’t do this at the lower levels is if we can have five or more teams - (get your friends to register!!)

Softball league age is determined by the age you are on 12/31 the year before the season. For the 2017 season - it would be whatever age your daughter is on 12/31/2016.

Softball season starts earlier than baseball. Games start in mid-March.

A Softball - WE NOW HAVE IT!

Since moving to the City side of District 8, we are now offering A Ball Softball. This level is one step up from T-Ball and the start of using softballs instead of a baseball (used during T-Ball). We use a 10" safety optic yellow softball. It is coach or machine pitch. . Oue objective in A Ball Softball is to continue learning the basics of the game: throwing, catching, and hitting. Girls eligbile for this divisions are ages 6 and 7.

AA Softball – Age 8-9 (or 10 depending on the situation)

Girls who play AA Softball are not ready for full-time player pitch. At this level, girls start pitching underhand from 35 feet, and can be assisted by a coach to come in and provide pitching instead of walking a batter. Teams are structured based on school. Buddy requests will TRY to be honored, but not guaranteed.

Girls ages 8-10 are eligible for 8/9/10 all-star try-outs (playing by AAA rules).

AAA Softball (Minors) – Age 8-11

Depending on the number of girls registered, assessments and draft will be determined for team structure. Buddy requests will not be honored at this level.

AAA is full player pitch from 35 feet. Stealing is allowed when ball reaches plate.

Younger player should demonstrate the ability to throw and catch with knowledge of the game.

Girls ages 8-10 are eligible for 8/9/10 all-star try-outs (playing by AAA rules).

Majors (softball) – Ages 9-12 - Note: Players can attain the age of 13 AFTER 12/31

Depending on the number of girls registered, assessments and draft will be determined for team structure. Buddy requests will not be honored at this level.

Majors is a competitive level of play. At this level, stealing is legal upon a pitcher's release of the ball and rules such as a dropped third strike apply. Pitchers are required to throw from a distance of 40 feet.

Girls ages 9-11 are eligible for 9/10/11 all-stars (plays by Major rules).

Girls ages 10-12 are eligible for 10/11/12 all-stars (plays by Major rules).

 Junior Softball – Age 13-14

Fastpitch for girls who are fairly advanced in skill level and/or age. Girls league age 12 can play Juniors.

SLL will attempt to field teams in every division. If not enough players register for a specific division, SLL will work with the player's family to place the player on an appropriately leveled team enabling the player to be comfortable, have fun and learn. For the 2024 season SLL is prioritizing growth and development of the softball program and are encouraging any interested families to register early and bring their friends! We will definitely need more coaches and umpire volunteers to make this happen, please consider volunteering! Even if you are potentially considering but not sure if you can, please register to help so that you can be included and receive information on coaches training and/or umpire trainings as we aim to have more of those earlier in the process this year.
